Tis The Season To Be Bow

This Summer is the season to go bold with bold bow. Perhaps it may remind you of Hello Kitty or Minnie, but do expect to see this Kitty and Minnie's all-time-favorite hair accessory being seated on some fashionistas' heads this Summer.

I love bows (who doesn't?) of all sizes.  Bows are cute, but I don't love them for this reason.  I love bows because they are versatile.  Bow can be worn as a standalone accessory or it can also be used as a detail on clothing or fashion accessory of all kinds.  Bow, when being made using materials of different textures and colors, would generate different style impact.  If you want to look cute, choose a bow made by soft satin.  If you are up for a punk look, go for black or metallic color bows made by leather or synthetic leather.  If vintage is your cup of tea, go for bows made by felt, lace or velvet.  The list goes on.

So if you are up for bows, don't miss the Lapsap Junkyard Sale this Sunday.  You will be thrilled by a complete range of accessories with bow detailing (featuring handmade accessory as well as one of a kind jewelry that are brought back from other parts of the world).

Who Cares?

When the market is flooded with mass produced goods, how many of us still care about Handmade?  How many still cherish things that are Homemade?  I do not know, but at least I still do.

When I first made the feathered headbands and combs, those who were truly concerned and some who were merely curious raised this question to me "Why do you make these yourself?".  I could understand where they were coming from.  I know they have been seeing mass produced feathered headband everywhere.  I seen those myself too. However, I still believe in designing and making the feathered headbands myself. All the headbands I made are solely one piece per design and yet I am selling them at the price similar to those mass produced headbands. For people who fancy feathered headbands, I am sure they would not like to wear a headband that can be so commonly found.  Just imagine one fine evening you are fully dressed up for a special party, but your night is ruined at last because...too bad!! several other guests are wearing the headband similar to yours.

So the question comes back to why do I want to make the items by hand when the profit margin is so low and it is so time consuming.  I have to say it is self-satisfaction that keeps me going.  Firstly, I am always thrilled and pleased with myself when I complete an item. Secondly, when someone is impressed with my creations, that is a double  bonus.

I have to admit that handmade stuffs are rarely flawless unless they are made by very well-experienced artisans.  Nevertheless, it is always the imperfections that make hand produced items perfect.  Why?  Because every piece comes from the heart.

Handmade Feathered Headband

I am so extremely energetic and inspired these days.  I am not sure what are the forces behind, but I hope this momentum would keep on going.  I have made quite a numberof things that I am so eager to exhibit and sell at the next junkyard sale.

I am looking forward to it.  Are you?

My "Altered" Ego

I had been so totally absent.  I confess that I was not inspired or rather, nothing inspired me.

I had not been given thought on anything.  I did not update my blog.  I stopped participating in flea market, bazaar, junkyard sale or whatever they call it, for months. I am far from being an aggressive vendor.

It's towards the end of March now.  I can hear the birds chirping. Perhaps it's just my imagination or hallucination.  I know there is no Spring in this tropical country, but I can use my imagination to visualize the arrival of Spring. Nothing and no one should ever stop me from doing so.  Not the traffic lights, not our ministers, not mom, and not even that dog who can't seem to stop barking.

So, as I imagine to usher in Spring, I start to hear birds chirping. I can smell the scents of flowers. Then I gather my mind, awaken my soul, and place my two hands back to work. In few hours time, you will be able to see a thing or two on this page.  I named them the "Altered" Ego because I don't create them, I just alter............

...................................

After countless hours, I am back in this square room.  Empty handed. Nothing to be featured. Not sure about you, but I am upset.  I have my "Altered Ego" right in front of me, I tried to capture some pictures, but I couldn't seem to get the mood right.

I am sorry.  Patience required.

Now, please meet Gladice, the lady in red.

Match with 50s looking outfit.  Oh, don't forget that red headhand

Coming up next is Priscilla.  She's probably born in the 70s as I was told.  She is fully made of genuine leather even on the outsole.  I could have leave her alone, but I decided to give her a facelift.  The results?? The 70s Priscilla now looks like she's born in the 40s.  So err...ok, probably facelift is not the right term to use.  Anyway, please welcome Priscilla.

G.O.D. Must Be Crazy!

What does the word "GOD" mean to you?  The Supreme Being?  The Creator?  The Almighty?  Or the ruler of the universe?

In Hong Kong, the word GOD carries a different meaning.  It is actually G.O.D. that has created a new meaning for the word GOD.  G.O.D. is a lifestyle concept store founded in Hong Kong that carries anything and everything from bed linens to boxer shorts.   G.O.D.is the acronym for "Goods of Desire" and it is also the phonetic sound of the meaning "To Live Better" in Cantonese.  The company's mission is "To Define a New Asian Identity.  Asia's climate, diet, space and culture are different from the west, why shouldn't Asians live differently? The exciting challenge for today's Asian designers is to define a new identity for their community." (source from www.god.com.hk)

Hong Kong cityscapes, old newspaper, and letterbox are few of the iconic prints most commonly found on G.O.D.'s products. These creative designs have also won them many designing awards in Hong Kong.  G.O.D.'s products are not yet available in Malaysia, but the good news now is there is no such need for you to fly all the way to Hong Kong or Singapore to catch a glimpse of their products.  All you have to do is just to come by my corner at:
